There is a steady and continuing demand for high quality office accommodation and support for technology based firms in the North East of England. In early 2002 the Fabriam Centre was opened to meet this demand. The Fabriam Centre was planned as a joint venture between the North of England Microelectronics Institute (NEMI) and Atmel North
Tyneside Ltd and was completed in May 2003.

The partners, with substantial support from both the Single programme and European Regional Development Funds have converted approximately 3000 square metres in a superb mix of offices, project and meeting rooms, incubator units and a creative thinking facility. All are fully supported by a state of the art telecoms, infrastructure and supporting services.The rooms are fitted out to a standard to attract the very best and to allow firms the kind of facilities that would normally only be available to large corporations - and at a highly cost effective all-in price.

Using Guest Zone Services

As part of the Fabriam Centres commitment to providing quality value added services, in 2004 the Fabriam Centre deployed the MyZones Guest Zone service across the entire centre. With this service the business park offers a managed wireless IP Access service to the tenants and an ad hoc IP access service to the visitors and contractors. A few of the reasons for choosing the MyZones service; was its ease of use, flexibility and the ability to control user access to the wireless network.

The MyZones installation at the Fabriam Centre consists of 6 access points spread throughout the business park. The main node is installed in the business parks managers’ office and connects to the MyZones central platform utilising the Fabriams highspeed Internet connection. This Internet connection uses a point-to-point microwave radio link to connect the Fabriam to the Databanx Internet data centre in Newcastle upon Tyne. Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) is used extensively throughout the MyZones installation to reduce the need of cumbersome mains power.

The MyZones service provides excellent coverage across tenant offices; meeting rooms; restaurant and the creative thinking facilities. Business tenants, visitors and contractors now enjoy fast, mobile and reliable Internet access across the Fabriam Centre.

This Guest Zone Service can be extended with an ad hoc IP access service to the visitors of the Business Park, which can be charged online via credit card payments. Other options include Wireless VoIP Telephone Services, several advertisement opportunities for local shops/restaurants and can be locally branded.
